Lodge Wins Women's 3,000 Meters, Breaks School Record Again
March 24, 2012
IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Lauren Lodge of the Pepperdine track team continued her record-setting season by winning the women's 3,000 meters and shaving a half-second off her own school record at the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) finished first out of 34 competitors. She ran the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:52.35, breaking her school record of 9:52.98 set in the first meet of the 2012 season at Westmont. Lodge has run four races in 2012 and set a school record in each one of them (also setting new marks in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters). Other highlights included junior Sara Woods-Decker (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon Honors HS/Chandler-Gilbert CC) posting the Waves' best time in both 100 and 200 meters, and winning her heat in the latter. Senior Aneasha Lawrence (Simi Valley, Calif./Village Christian HS) ran a season-best time in the 800 meters. In other women's events, Pepperdine's top times were turned in by senior Ana Prim (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) in the 1,500 meters, junior Juliet Casillas (Los Angeles, Calif./Folsom HS) in the 100-meter hurdles, and junior Kasey Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College) in the 400 meters. The 4x100-meter team of Woods-Decker, Ullery, junior Summer Enalen (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) and freshman Triston Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo./Briarcrest Christian HS) also ran a season-best time.
"The day went well," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "Today we had pretty good performances by most of our athletes, and a lot of PRs. Lauren ran a good strong race. That was the highlight of the day, although we had a lot of other standout individual performances. Triston Brown ran a great leg in the 4x400. Ana Prim ran a good race in the 1,500, Aneasha ran well in the 800 and is getting closer and closer to the school record. Juliet Casillas had a PR in both the 100 and 100 hurdes." Next on the schedule for Pepperdine is the Cal-Nevada Invitational in Claremont, Calif., next Saturday and Sunday (March 31 and April 1), though Radnoti said that it's likely that only Wesley Blundell will compete there. |
