March 16, 2013
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Pepperdine track teams' most notable performances came during the hurdles as the Waves took part in the Northridge Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Summer Enalen (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) ran a 15.93 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, just 0.09 off her own school record that was set at CSUN's track in 2011. That was good for 13th place. Senior Juliet Casillas (Los Angeles, Calif./Folsom HS) had a time of 71.70 in the women's 400-meter hurdles, which was second in her heat and good for fifth on Pepperdine's all-time top-five list.
One of the best results was turned in by freshman Rachel Rant (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS), who took 12th place overall out of 49 runners in the women's 800 meters. Freshman Syrii Daniel (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa HS) won her heat in the 100.
Top finishers for the Waves in the other women's events were senior Kasey Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College) in the 200, junior Channing Williamson (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb HS) in the 400, freshman Hanna Kristensen (Gresham, Ore./Gresham HS) in the 1,500 and junior Sarah Attar (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS) in the 3,000.
On the men's side, freshman Mark Vega (Orange, Calif./Villa Park HS) posted a double, being the top Wave to the finish line in both the 800 and 1,500 meters.
Pepperdine will be in action again at the UC Irvine Invitational next Friday and Saturday (March 22-23).
