Near Records, Strong Performances for Track at Ben Brown Invitational
March 10, 2012
FULLERTON, Calif. - Two near-school records highlighted the Pepperdine track teams' efforts at the Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Aneasha Lawrence (Simi Valley, Calif./Village Christian HS) won her heat in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:20.76, which was only about a second slower than the school record set by Chelsea Wishard in 2008.
"That was really exciting for just her second effort in this event this season," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "I think she'll break that record in the next couple of weeks."
Junior Jonathan Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) set a personal record in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:02.00, which was just a little more than two seconds slower than Chris Ogle's school record set in 2008. Rahaeuser had the second-best time (first among collegians) in his section.
"Jonathan ran a really great race," Radnoti said. "He gave an outstanding performance."
Sophomore Adrianna Davies (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) won her section of 17 runners in the women's 1,500 meters in a time of 5:00.96.
"Adie ran a really good race," Radnoti said.
Also, sophomore Summer Enalen (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) had the Waves' top times in two events, the women's 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles, while juniors Sara Woods-Decker (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon Honors HS/Chandler-Gilbert CC) and Kasey Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College) paced the Waves in the 200 meters and 400 meters, respectively.
"This was a perfect day for running," Radnoti said. "We hadn't been to this race in a few years because it fell during spring break. There was a lot of really good competition, including some national leaders. This will help prepare everyone for our upcoming races. Each one gets tougher and tougher."
Pepperdine next takes part in the Northridge Invitational next Saturday (March 17).
