JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Lauren Lodge of the Pepperdine women's track team shattered her own school record in the 5,000 meters, highlighting the Waves' first-day efforts at the North Florida Spring Invitational on Friday.

Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS), ran 16:58.41, more than 16 seconds better than the 17:14.90 she ran at this same meet last year. The Pepperdine senior finished second out of the 40 competitors, though the winner was a non-collegian running attached.

It's the second straight meet that Lodge has set a school record. At the season-opening Westmont meet two weeks ago, Lodge broke the record in the 3,000 meters.

Among the other four events the women competed in, Pepperdine's top finishers were junior Sara Decker (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon Honors HS/Chandler-Gilbert CC) in the 100 meters, sophomore Summer Enalen (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) in the 100-meter hurdles, junior Kasey Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College) in the 400 meters and senior Aneasha Lawrence (Simi Valley, Calif./Village Christian HS) in the 800 meters.

On the men's side, junior Jonathan Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) and senior Kenny Smith (Willits, Calif./Willits HS) both finished in the top 10 in the 5,000 meters. Rahaeuser was seventh and Smith was ninth among the 46 runners in the event.

The meet concludes on Saturday.
