Athletics Academic Services

Our Goal: To foster academic development and personal growth while providing student-athletes with the necessary resources to become successful.

Assistance includes course and major selection, supervised study time, eligibility rules interpretations, and the proctoring of exams. AAS staff utilizes the Academic Services Center, located in Firestone Fieldhouse, in conjunction with their specially trained tutors to serve student-athletes.

Frequent communication between AAS staff, coaches, and professors ensures a supportive environment that aids in maintaining academic achievement. AAS also draws from the campus' many other resources, including One-Stop, the Career Center, and Payson Library.

Study Hall: In order to accommodate the demands of a student-athlete's commitment to academics and athletics within the University, a study hall program is employed.

Hours: 8am - 9pm Mondays - Thursdays, 8am - 5pm Fridays
Location: Firestone Fieldhouse 122 before 6pm and Payson Library after 6pm

It is required for ALL new student-athletes and those with a 2.5 cumulative grade point average or lower (this GPA could be higher depending on coach). All student-athletes are welcome to use our services, including usage of the Academic Services Center and its resources, advising, and tutoring.

Tutoring: For those student-athletes who need extra assistance in specific courses, the Academic Support Center provides tutorial services.

The purpose of the tutorial program is to supply student-athletes with one-on-one educational support and week-by-week structure so they can succeed in their coursework and develop the skills and attitudes of a successful student. Student-athletes and tutors develop a close working relationship by meeting each week to complete tasks and set new academic goals.

Tutors are trained student employees with strong academic knowledge, a clear and friendly communication style and a desire to help student-athletes perform their best. To request a tutor or for more information, contact Jim Hamad, Director of Athletic Academic Services
