Matt Young was hired as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Pepperdine Athletics in September 2009.
He oversees all aspects of strength and conditioning for 17 sports at Pepperdine and runs the Athletic Performance Center, which was built in 2009. He directly works with the women's indoor and sand volleyball, men's volleyball and men's tennis teams.
Young was previously the Vice President and Director of Athletic Performance for M.A.D. (Making a Difference) Sports Training and was based in South Bend, Ind. He contracted with several local colleges to provide training of their athletes, including Saint Mary's, Holy Cross and Bethel.
In 2007, he served as the Director of Athletic Development for the S3 Athletic Development Center in Jacksonville, Fla. From 2004-06, he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. He worked for Pepperdine Director of Athletics Steve Potts at Lipscomb, who was that school's Director of Athletics at the time.
Young earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Lipscomb, graduating with a degree in exercise science in 2001 and later earning his master's in education in 2004.
He is married (his wife's name is Heather).
