This Week at Pepperdine: March 24-30

MALIBU, Calif. - Four baseball games and three tennis matches take place in Malibu this week, while a #1 vs. #2 showdown in sand volleyball takes place over at USC on Tuesday.
The baseball team hosts Cal State Northridge on Tuesday, and then Portland this weekend. The men's tennis team entertains Santa Clara on Tuesday before heading to BYU on Saturday. The women's tennis team has San Diego and BYU in town this weekend.
The men's volleyball team has a couple of big matches in the Bay Area. After visiting USC on Tuesday, the sand volleyball team heads east to the Sand in the City tournament hosted by Georgia State. The women's golf team is in Hawaii this week, while the track teams compete at Cal Poly on Saturday.
David Sofaer of men's tennis opens up This Week at Pepperdine, and interviews take place with National Player of the Week Aaron Brown (baseball), Parker Kalmbach (men's volleyball) and Danielle Feneridis (women's tennis).
Here's an in-depth look at the week's events:
Tuesday: vs. Cal State Northridge (Eddy D. Field Stadium), 3 p.m.
After a 4-0 week on the road, the Pepperdine baseball team heads back to Malibu for four games at home. The Waves host Cal State Northridge in a non-conference matchup and then welcome Portland for a three-game WCC series on the weekend. Pepperdine will be looking to improve on its 4-2 conference record after sweeping Santa Clara in its last WCC series. Aaron Brown will also be looking to build on his solid season after gaining national recognition last week for throwing eight scoreless innings and hitting two home runs against Santa Clara on Sunday.
Friday: at Stanford (Palo Alto, Calif.), 5 p.m.
The #3 Pepperdine men's volleyball team took over second place in the MPSF standings last week with sweeps over then-#2 Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge. This week the Waves prepare for their final road trip of the regular season, with matches at #6 Stanford and Pacific. Although the Cardinal defeated Pepperdine 3-1 in the meeting in Malibu, the Waves have won a season-best five matches in a row since. Josh Taylor enters the week ranked fourth in the NCAA with 4.16 kills per set.
WOMEN'S SAND VOLLEYBALL
Tuesday: at USC (Los Angeles, Calif.), 5 p.m.
The #1 Pepperdine sand volleyball team puts its perfect 7-0 record on the line on Tuesday evening when the Waves face #2 USC inside Merle Norman Stadium. The Waves defeated the Trojans 5-0 at home to open the season back on March 8. The week continues with the Sand in the City tournament hosted by #9 Georgia State on Saturday and Sunday. Lara Dykstra and Becca Strehlow enter the week with an 8-2 overall record together, while Sophie Asprey and Victoria Adelhelm have held down the No. 5 spot in the lineup with a perfect 5-0 record. Overall, the Waves boast a combined match record of 49-9 with no pair losing more than twice all season.
Friday: vs. San Diego (Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center), 1:30 p.m.
Saturday: vs. BYU (Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center), 11 a.m.
The #36 Pepperdine women's tennis team plays at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center for the first time in three weeks, hosting both San Diego and #71 BYU this weekend. The Waves are 50-5 all-time vs. the Toreros. The Cougars enter Saturday's match undefeated in conference play after upsetting #38 Saint Mary's 5-2 last week at home, but are just 7-6 on the year with all six losses coming on the road. Meanwhile, Pepperdine is 4-0 at home this season and is currently the top-ranked team in the league.
Tuesday: vs. Santa Clara (Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center), 3 p.m.
After picking up a win vs. San Francisco last week to improve to 2-0 in the WCC, Pepperdine continues league action on Tuesday at home vs. Santa Clara. The week continues with a trip to Provo, Utah, to face BYU on Saturday. Pepperdine has never lost to either Santa Clara or BYU.
Monday-Wednesday: at `Anuenue Spring Break Classic (Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii)
Pepperdine wraps up the regular season in Hawaii at the `Anuenue Spring Break Classic. Grace Na is the defending champion, while Alina Ching came in second at this tournament in 2012. #7 Washington and the #8 Waves are the two highest-ranked teams at the event. Then, Pepperdine has a few weeks to get ready for the WCC Championships (April 14-16 in Bremerton, Wash.).
Saturday: at Cal Poly Invitational (San Luis Obispo, Calif.)
Track meet number six of the 2014 season is up the coast at Cal Poly on Saturday. The Waves are coming off another good showing at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational, highlighted by Lisa Santroch's victory in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
