Mark Campbell joined the Pepperdine men’s basketball staff in August 2007 and he is in his first season as an assistant coach.
Campbell was most recently an assistant coach at Clackamas Community College, located in Oregon City, Ore. He spent two seasons with the Cougars (2005-06 and 2006-07) and helped them to the 2007 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges championship. Campbell was responsible for recruiting and guard development. Clackamas’ two-year record with Campbell was 50-16 (.758), which included a school record of 29 wins in 2006-07.
Campbell played his final two seasons at Hawaii and graduated in 2004 with a degree in liberal studies. He was part of the Rainbow Warriors’ 2002 NCAA Tournament team and the 2003 NIT squad. He is the winningest two-year player in Hawaii history and helped lead the Warriors to a school-record 29 wins in one season. Campbell was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Defensive Team in 2002-03 and was also a two-time Academic All-Conference selection.
He transferred to Hawaii from Clackamas Community College, where he played one season. In 2000-01, the Cougars finished sixth in the NWAACC and broke the school record for most wins (28) in a single season. Campbell was named the South Region MVP.
Campbell, who also earned a master’s of arts degree in education from George Fox University in 2006, is a native of Mount Vernon, Wash., and attended Mount Vernon High School. He is married to the former Ashley Smith, who earned All-American honors while playing basketball at Vanderbilt.
