Pepperdine, #22 Duke Battle to Scoreless Tie

SAN DIEGO, Calif.Despite outshooting #22 Duke and putting 11 shots on goal, the Pepperdine women’s soccer team was held to a season-opening 0-0 tie in the first game of the WCC/ACC Adidas Challenge, hosted by the University of San Diego.

 

The Waves (0-0-1) held a 15-9 overall advantage on shots and a 9-4 edge on corner kicks. In the overtime frame alone, Pepperdine outshot Duke 3-0 and put all three shots on target. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Stolte (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) made three saves to post the shutout.

 

In its next match, Pepperdine will face #19 Wake Forest on Sunday (Sept. 2) at 11 a.m. in San Diego.
