SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's tennis team advanced four singles players to the round of 32 and two doubles teams to the quarterfinals, at the ITA Women's College Regionals in San Diego, Calif., on Thursday.
The No. 10 seed Alexandria Walters defeated Lyndsay Kinstler (USC), 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the round of 32. Walters had a bye in the round of 128. Teammate Arianna Coiffer also had a bye in the first round and then defeated Ashlee Brown (ASU) 6-4, 6-1, in the round of 64. No. 13 seed Anamika Bhargava defeated Deborah Armstrong (Long Beach State) 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 64, while Andrea Oates defeated Julie Lazar (Long Beach State) 7-5, 6-3, in the round of 128. Oates advanced to the round of 32 after her opponent in the round of 64 withdrew with an illness.
The No. 5 seeded doubles team of Bhargava/Walters received a bye in the round of 64, then defeated Deborah Castany/Jane Huh (Arizona), 8-0 in the round of 32. Oates and Marie Zalameda had a bye in the first round and then defeated Sara Ellison/Roxanne Ellison (San Diego State) 8-4 in the round of 32.Teammates Tara Panu/Tania Rice suffered a 9-7 loss to Tiffany Mai/Malorie De la Cruz (Fullerton) in the round of 64.
